For August's Product Weekend, I worked on BarPeek, an iPhone companion app for CodexBar.
The idea was pretty simple. I've been using CodexBar on my Mac to monitor my AI coding usage, but I wanted a way to check those numbers from my phone too. š±
The MVP was already working, so I spent the weekend polishing the app, fixing some rough edges, and preparing it for release.
Turns out, getting an app ready for release takes more time than building the initial version. š
I didn't manage to launch it during the weekend. The first TestFlight beta didn't go out until September.
Fast forward to October, I've just completed version 1.1! š
This update involved rebuilding the widgets and launching a revamped product landing page.
What started as a small weekend project has become something I've been working on for almost three months.
One takeaway from this project: AI has made building an MVP much faster, but turning it into a proper product still takes time.
The first working version is just the beginning. There's still UI polishing, testing, fixing edge cases, and sometimes rebuilding features that didn't turn out quite right.
I guess the real challenge isn't just how fast we can build something with AI, but whether we're willing to keep improving it after the initial excitement fades.
